Welcome

The Pulvertaft Hand Centre is a long-established specialist hand surgery centre within the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary.  In 2009, we saw 15,557 new patients, 37,411 follow-ups and we operated on a total of 4,278 patients.  The Pulvertaft Hand Centre works very much as a multi-disciplinary team – there are 9 Consultants, 5 clinical fellows and one clinical / research fellow, as well as some sessions from an upper limb fellow.  The medical staff are from both orthopaedic and plastic surgery backgrounds.  We have our own dedicated hand physiotherapists and hand occupational therapists, as well as specialist nurse practitioners in the outpatient clinics.  Two of our senior therapists also work as Extended Scope Practitioners, with their own caseload of patients.  We have a day case facility (ward and theatres) on level 3 of the Kings Treatment Centre.  This operates on a Monday to Friday basis.

There is a strong research and postgraduate base within the Unit, with a separate team to deal with these aspects of our work.
